Bermondsey Abbey
This
small, enclosed private garden lies to the rear of the gatehouse of the
medieval Bermondsey Abbey, London SE1. The garden would have once
formed a paved access to the Abbey - the main buildings were demolished
around 1541.
Natural stone paving, within a
framework of granite sets, hints at this former use, providing a
contrast to the ancient brick walls. Numerous scented climbing plants
help to create an oasis of relative tranquillity only a few steps away
from the busy Tower Bridge Road. |
